Rainbow of Love

  It has been a little while since my first post. Hopefully blogging will sweeten with time for me. I have been busy doing lots of projects for the blog that will in time get posted.

Today, I wanted to talk about living the sweet life rather than eating something sweet. I usually pride myself on having no political opinion on anything. I don't vote. I like to save these things for those who know more about the topics or are more outspoken of their opinions. Silly, I know, as everyone's opinion counts. With that thought in mind actually that everyone counts, I have an opinion.

My parents raised me to believe that everyone is created 100% equal. The rights of each person should therefor be no different. Growing up in our family, it was our responsibility to look out for others and help them however we could. We didn't have much money with a family of 7. We couldn't just write a check to a charity of choice and go on with our day. If we saw a homeless person we couldn't just toss a couple bucks out the window as we headed to lunch. We had to get creative. We had to do to others as we would like them to do for us. We had to speak to people with patience and grace as we would like to be spoken to. We had to accept people with whatever their situation was. Oprah once said that every single person you'll ever meet shares one common desire. They want to know:  "Do you see me? Do you hear me? Does what I say mean anything to you?" She explains that when you validate that yes you do, it tells them they count.

In light of the Supreme Court hearings this week on the gay marriages, I would like to think it is silly for a man to belittle another's feelings and rights on something as wonderfully sweet as love. My children are being taught that it is perfectly natural for a man to love another man, just as it is natural for a man to love a woman. Love is sometimes all we have to give. I think it is important for any love to be validated.

Perhaps today you will feel inspired to make a rainbow sweet treat and share it with the one you love.  Even better yet, make an extra and give it to someone who could use a rainbow of validation.
